Buri Ram is dotted with Khmer monuments and prasat, the most
spectacular of which is Prasat Hin Phanom Rung, which sits astride an
extinct volcano. Looking like a mini Angkor Wat, Phanom Rung has
been beautifully restored and the annual festival, plus light & sound
show, held each April are well worth the visit. It is a walled in
enclosure, built around the 12th century, with vibrant stone carvings
covering the inner temple. A similar walled-in sanctuary can be found
at Prasat Hin Muang Tam, a few kms away. |
