Samt Prakar
Kamphaeng Phet is a province of great historical importance,
with the main town established over 700 years ago, when it
was known as Cha Kang Rao and Nakhon Chum. A major
city in the Sukhothai empire, it was full of splendid temples,
shrines and other buildings. Impressive ruins in the
Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park attest to the splendour of the
city's past., such as Wat Phra Si Ariyabot and Wat Chang Rop,
The province also has a number of attractive national parks:
Khlong Lan National Park, Mae Wong National Park, Khlong
Wang Chao National Park.

358 kms northwest of
Bangkok. Accessible by bus
via Nakhon Sawan.
Geography
Mountainous in the west, the
Ping River flows through the
centre of the province and the
nmain town. In rainy season,
the river floods, but is often
dry in summer.
