Kanchanaburi is known worldwide for the Bridge over the River
Kwai (Kwae, actually), symbol of the infamous Death Railway and
brutal treatment of prisoners of war. Two silent cemeteries and
museums dedicated to the wartime years reinforce memories of 50
years before. Trains still cross the bridge and run along the old
wartime tracks to Namtok. Each year a light & sound show is held on
the bridge to mark its bombing by Allied plane during the war.

Outside the town, the province is blessed with rugged natural beauty,
sparkling waterfalls and plentiful wildlife in its national parks at Sai
Yok, Erawan and Khao Laem Dam. River rafting on the Mae Klong
River and elephant treks are popular activities

Location & Access
Located 129 kms west of
Bangkok. Regular buses make the
1 1/2 hour journey via Nakhon
Pathom, while a train service out
of Hualampong Station runs

infamous Death Railway.

Geography
