Sa
A centre of Buddhism during the Sivichaya period, Nakhon Si
Thammarat was a city of great historical and religious significance,
principally because of Wat Phra Mahathat, where the greatly revered
Phra Buddha Sihing was formerly enshrined. Today, this priceless
image is housed in a special chedi in the town. Adventure tourists
head for the interior for some serious trekking around the peaks and
waterfalls of Khao Luang National Park. |
