S
Also known as Paknam (meaning mouth of the river), Samut Prakarn
shepherds the last meanderings of the Chao Phraya River as it slowly
empties into the Gulf of Thailand. Old forts at the mouth of the river
mark Thailand's turn-of-the-century attempts to keep out French and
British warships. The province is famous for its gigantic Crocodile
Farm, probably the largest on the world, where these fearsome
creatures are bred in their thousands. The Songkran Water Festival is
traditionally celebrated in the Mon areas of Phra Pradaeng one week
later than the rest of Thailand. |
