One of the more well-known southern provinces, Songkhla seems to
have a dual personality. The main town of Hat Yai is a bustling
commercial city, with markets full of cheap goods, and totally
dependent on Malaysian tourists who pour over the border in search
of its famed nightlife. The old seaside resort of Songkhla, on the other
hand, is gentle and tranquil, with activity centred around Samila
Beach, and its offshore islands of Cat and Rat. Further north,
Songkhla Lake attracts tourists to Khu Khut Bird Sanctuary and Yo
Island for its fabrics and seafood. |
